Charge Sign Trent Strickland to Contract and Waive Tyrone Kent

CANTON, OH - December 16, 2011 - The Canton Charge have signed guard/forward Trent Strickland (6-5, 216, Wake Forest) to a contract and have waived guard/forward Tyrone Kent, General Manager Wes Wilcox announced today. Per team and league policy, terms of the contract were not released.

Strickland, 27, spent the last two seasons playing for the Antwerp Giants of the Belgian League. During the 2010-11 season, he played in 15 games and averaged 7.5 points on .440 shooting, 3.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.1 steals in 22.3 minutes per game. In 2009-10 with Antwerp, he played in 15 games and averaged 22.6 minutes, 9.5 points, 3.1 rebounds, 0.5 assists and 1.3 steals.

Prior to joining Antwerp, Strickland spent two seasons with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA Development League. During the 2008-09 season, he played in 50 games, all starts, averaging 17.5 points on .446 shooting, 6.1 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.0 steal in 31.1 minutes per game. During the 2007-08 season, Strickland played in 47 games (29 starts) for the Vipers, averaging 12.9 points on .431 shooting, 5.7 rebounds, 0.7 assists and 0.7 steals in 26.1 minutes per game. In 2006-07, he also played in nine games for Estudiantes de Bahia Blanca of the Argentinian League, averaging 10.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game and 2.2 steals.

Prior to his professional career, Strickland played college basketball at Wake Forest University. He played in 126 games for the Demon Deacons (2002-06) and in his senior season, played in 33 games (31 starts), averaging 11.6 points on .482 shooting, 6.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 0.7 steals in 32.3 minutes per game. Strickland was a four-year letterman at Wake Forest.

The 6-5, 210 pound Tyrone Kent appeared in seven games for the Charge this season, averaging 5.0 points, 2.3 rebounds and 0.6 assists. Kent was originally drafted by Canton in the fifth round (78th overall) of the 2011 NBA Development League Draft.
