Kyle Gibson Named to All-Rookie Team
Canton Charge guard Kyle Gibson (6-5, 205, Louisiana Tech) was named to the NBA Development All-Rookie Second team, the league announced today. Gibson earned the honors by a vote of the 16 NBA D-League head coaches.
“Kyle is a hard-working, smart player who is a consummate professional and embodies everything about the NBA Development League,” said Charge General Manager Wes Wilcox. “We are excited that all of his effort and commitment was recognized by the coaches in the league because he’s deserving of this honor.”
Gibson, 24, was originally acquired by Canton on December 2nd. In 44 games (28 starts), he averaged 9.9 points on .403 shooting with 3.6 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 0.6 steals in 23.9 minutes per game. His breakout performance came when he scored 30 points on 12-of-18 shooting, including 6-of-8 from three-point range, with five rebounds and one steal in a 136-113 win over Rio Grande Valley on February 16th.
“I’m so happy for Kyle to earn this award after all of the effort he put into making himself and the team better this past season,” said Charge Head Coach Alex Jensen. “He was a great player to coach this year and I wish him nothing but success going forward.”
Gibson started all six of Canton’s postseason games and averaged 18.8 points on .486 shooting with 4.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 0.7 steals in 33.7 minutes per game. He was the eighth-leading scorer in the NBA Development League Playoffs and scored 20 or more points in three out of the team’s final four postseason contests.
