Energy Halt Charge Streak at Six

The Iowa Energy used a huge fourth quarter run to defeat the Canton Charge, 103-86, in front of 3,518 at the Canton Memorial Civic Center on Saturday night. The loss stopped Cantonís six-game winning streak and dropped them to 12-9 on the season, while Iowa improved to 6-11.

Canton raced out to a 29-20 first quarter lead in part to an efficient 50% shooting from the field coupled with extra opportunities resulting from six turnovers from Iowa. The Energy came out in the second and initiated a 12-2 run to erase the deficit and give them a 32-31 lead. The remainder of the half went back and forth, with seven ties and two lead changes in the final 7:42 of the quarter. Neither team led by more than one score the rest of the second period and Iowa held a 48-47 advantage at the half.

The close contention remained throughout the third period, with seven lead changes and four ties, but Canton was able to pull ahead 72-71 due to their 56% shooting from the field in the third. The gameís turning point came from the start of the fourth quarter, as the Energy majorly shifted the gameís momentum on both ends of the floor. Iowa went on a 15-0 run to begin the fourth, highlighted by hitting seven consecutive shots at one point, all while holding Canton scoreless for the first 6:19 of the period. That run put the game away for the Energy, outscoring the Charge 32-14 in the fourth and holding the home team to 3-of-17 from the field.

Micheal Eric provided a strong effort for Canton with his fifth double-double of the season, scoring a season-high 14 points and grabbing a season-high 13 rebounds with four blocks in 32 minutes. Jorge Gutierrez scored 13 points with three rebounds, three assists and four steals in 38 minutes. Jorge now has eight consecutive games of double-digit scoring, while he was averaging 9.8 points per game coming into tonight. Dominique Johnson added 11 points and five rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench.

Iowaís Chris Wright led all scorers with 21 points, with 15 in the second half. Morris Almond poured in 20 points with three rebounds in 28 minutes. On assignment from the Denver Nuggets, Quincy Miller notched a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds in 28 minutes. Iowa outscored Canton 46-28 in the paint tonight.

The two teams will switch venues for a meeting in Des Moines tomorrow evening, as the Energy will host the Charge at the Wells Fargo Center at 5:00 p.m.
