Charge Acquire Onuaku as Returning Player

The Canton Charge have acquired Arinze Onuaku (6’9”, 275, Syracuse) as a returning player and waived guard/forward Zane Johnson, the team announced today.

Onuaku, 26, spent training camp and the beginning of the 2013-14 NBA season with the New Orleans Pelicans, playing in three games and averaging 1.0 point, 2.3 rebounds and 1.0 assist in 8.3 minutes per game.

Onuaku played in 38 games for the Charge last season (32 starts) and averaged 12.6 points on .564 shooting with 9.5 rebounds and 0.9 blocks in 23.7 minutes per game. His shooting percentage and rebound average were both fifth-best in the league last season, while he also posted 20 double doubles as a 2012-13 All-Star.

He also averaged 11.7 points on .600 shooting with 9.7 rebounds in 25.0 minutes per game during his three starts during Canton’s opening round playoff series last season. He will be available for the team’s pair of home games against the Springfield Armor this weekend.

Johnson played in two games for the Charge and averaged 5.0 points, 1.5 rebounds and 0.5 assists in 17.5 minutes per game.
