Charge Back Over .500 With Win Over Vipers

The Canton Charge held on for a 135-132 victory over the Rio Grande Valley Vipers down in Texas on Saturday night. The win was Canton’s fourth-straight, tying a season-long winning streak, and improved them to 17-16 this season. The loss drops the Vipers to 20-15 and gives the Charge the edge in the season series at 2-1.

T.J. Campbell notched his second double-double of the year with 26 points, 14 dimes and six rebounds in 50 minutes. Manny Harris continued his scoring assault as of late with 36 points, nine rebounds six assists and three steals in 44 minutes. The Charge tied a season-high with seven players score double-digit points and had three players score 20+ points for the second-consecutive game.

The overtime victory was Canton’s second in as many tries this season, with their other win in extra time taking place in a 110-103 victory over Tulsa on January 19th. The Charge had 51 rebounds to pass the half century mark for the second-consecutive game and a season-best 31 assists. Canton also attempted a season-high 100 shots in the game, while Frank Hassell contributed 14 points and six rebounds in 21 minutes off the bench.

Seven Vipers scored in double-digits, led by first round NBA Draft pick Marcus Morris’ 31 points, 16 rebounds and two blocks in 40 minutes. Will Conroy, who had 18 assists Thursday night, dished out 18 more with 17 points in 46 minutes. Rio Grande Valley had a Charge opponent season-high 57 team rebounds in the game with 28 assists. The Vipers’ 132 points were also an opponent season-high.

Dante Milligan had his second double-double in as many games and ninth overall this season with 11 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots in 29 minutes. Antoine Agudio continued to be lethal from long range by going 4-of-5 from the three-point line on his way to 22 points and six rebounds in 51 minutes. Agudio is tops in the NBA D-League in three-point shooting this season, hitting 65-of-104 attempts for 63%.

Canton will return home for one more contest before the All-Star break: a matchup with the Bakersfield Jam to wrap up the season series Wednesday, February 22nd at 7:00 p.m.
