Charge Acquire Jai Lucas
The Canton Charge have acquired guard Jai Lucas (5-10, 160, Texas) from the available player pool, the team announced today. Per team and league policy, terms of the contract were not released. The Charge have also placed guard Kyle Gibson on the inactive list while he is listed as day-to-day with a right wrist injury.
Lucas, 24, has had stints with both the Idaho Stampede and the Sioux Falls Skyforce in the NBA Development League this season. Originally selected in the 6th round (83rd overall) in the 2012 NBA D-League Draft by the Stampede, Lucas played in 12 games with Idaho and averaged 7.8 points with 1.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 21.3 minutes per game. He then played in four games with Sioux Falls from January 11-18th, where he averaged 5.3 points with 1.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 15.8 minutes per game.
In the 2011-12 season, Lucas played in 29 games with BK Valmiera of the Latvian League and averaged 16.7 points with 2.7 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.0 steal in 35.3 minutes per game. In 12 more games with Valmiera in the Baltic League in 2011-12, he averaged 14.3 points with 2.9 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.5 steals in 36.6 minutes per game.
As a true freshman for the University of Florida (2007-08), Lucas played in 36 games and averaged 8.5 points with 1.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 30.1 minutes per game. He finished his collegiate career at the University of Texas (2009-11) where he played in 58 games and averaged 2.9 points with 0.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 11.4 minutes per game.
The Canton roster now stands at 10. Lucas will wear number 20 and is expected to be in uniform for tonight’s final home regular season game when the Charge host the Texas Legends at 7:30 p.m. for Fan Appreciation Night.
