Canton Runs Away From Sioux Falls
The Canton Charge outscored the Sioux Falls Skyforce 32-18 in the fourth quarter to run away for the 100-82 road victory Friday night. The Charge improved their record to 27-17 on the season and boosted their East Division lead to four games with six left to play, while the Skyforce dropped to 22-21.
Both teams shot over 50% in the game’s opening period, but Canton led 26-21 thanks in large part to forcing eight Sioux Falls turnovers that resulted in 12 points. The Charge pulled ahead by as many as 11 in the second quarter, but Canton and Sioux Falls shot 35% and 37% respectively in the period to keep the game close at 47-41 at the half.
The Skyforce initiated a 13-4 run in the first 5:10 in the third quarter to gain their first advantage since the first quarter. Sioux Falls cut it to 68-64 at the end in the third thanks in large part to allowing only seven personal fouls in the game’s first 36 minutes and surrendering just two Charge trips to the free-throw line.
Canton began the fourth with a 13-4 run to build a double-digit lead they would not surrender the rest of the way, leading by as many as 18 in the period. The Charge outrebounded the home team 12-3 in the final quarter and hit 12-of-17 from the field for 71% compared to the Skyforce’s 6-of-15 for 40%.
Arinze Onuaku tallied his 16th double-double of the season in scoring 12 points with 13 rebounds in 27 minutes of play. Kyle Weaver netted 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting with five rebounds and three assists in 33 minutes. Antoine Agudio poured in 10 points on 5-of-7 from three-point range with two assists and four rebounds 36 minutes. Micheal Eric came off the bench to provide 14 points, seven rebounds and two blocks in 21 minutes.
James Mays had a game-high 21 points on 10-of-17 shooting with 10 rebounds and two blocks in 34 minutes. On assignment from the Miami Heat, Jarvis Varnado added 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting with eight boards, four blocks and six turnovers in 40 minutes. Seth Tarver scored 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting with six steals in 33 minutes. Andre Barrett scored 13 points with six rebounds and eight assists in 44 minutes.
The two teams will meet again tomorrow to wrap up the season series at 8:00 p.m. at the Sioux Falls Arena.
