BAKERSFIELD, January 8, 2011 – The Bakersfield Jam (11-8) lost to the Iowa Energy (15-6) Saturday night at the Jam Events Center by a score of 108-116. Iowa’s Chris Lofton recorded a season-high 44 points to lead the Energy to a road victory.
Both teams came out slow this evening. Iowa’s first point of the game was a technical shot by Chris Lofton on a defensive three seconds call at the 11:02 mark. The first field goal of the game did not take place until the 9:02 mark when Jeremy Wise hit a three-pointer to make it 3-1. Jam led after the first quarter 22-20; however, Iowa outscored Bakersfield 36-31 to lead at the half by a score of 56-53. Devin Ebanks was a spark off the bench for the Jam, scoring 20 points in the first half, and Kenny Taylor contributed 13, including 3 three-pointers. Iowa had 3 players in double-figures at halftime, led by Othyus Jeffers 17 points, Chris Lofton 15, and Courtney Sims 11.
The third period was a back and forth battle as the teams exchanged leads and finished the quarter tied at 85. Iowa went on a 12-2 run to start the fourth as Lofton ignited the Energy with an 18 point fourth quarter performance. Wise scored 11 points of his own in the final period, but Bakersfield’s effort fell short.
Wise led Bakersfield with 27 points and dished out 9 assists. Ebanks finished with 26 points and 8 rebounds. Taylor scored 16 points total on the night. Trey Johnson contributed 11 points on 4-6 shooting before fouling out in the fourth quarter. Marqus Blakely had 8 points, 11 rebounds and 5 steals.
Iowa’s Othyus Jeffers and Courtney Sims both finished with a double-double with 27 points and 10 rebounds and 16 points and 10 rebounds, respectively.
The Jam will next travel to the NBA Development League Showcase in South Padre Island, Texas where they will face the Fort Wayne Mad Ants on Wednesday, January 12th, and Austin Toros on Thursday, January 13th.
