Dewars Breaks Ground on NW Store

BAKERSFIELD, July 28, 2011 -The family behind Dewar's Candy Shop are about to sweeten the deal for people in northwest Bakersfield. After more than a year of planning, ground was broken this morning for new building on Calloway Drive just north of Rosedale Hwy., that will feature indoor and outdoor eating areas...plus a few other surprises, according to Heather Dewar-Cook. "Another level for families to go do something in Bakersfield, and have fun and actually have an experience, rather than have just a quick ice cream." Although Dewar-Cook says they want some of it to be a surprise, some of the goodies include the same 16-foot long keyboard seen in the movie "BIG" that you play with your feet. They'll also bring on a mascot...one of their mint striped candies...and a singing moose. She says they are thrilled to be doing this for their fourth-generation business, as a way to give back to Bakersfield. Look for a grand opening around January.
