Bakersfield Jam Internship Program

Always wanted to get your foot in the door and learn about the world of sports? Get an internship in the NBA Development League with the Bakersfield Jam! The internship program consists of internship opportunities throughout the organization. These are unpaid positions, and in order to be considered for the program, applicants must be students who will receive academic credit for the experience. Our offices are located in Bakersfield, CA.

General Skills Required

COMMUNICATIONS INTERN
Reports To: VP of Operations/Administration
Summary:
  • Communications Interns assist with all media, information and broadcasting activities for the Bakersfield Jam.
  • Internships are granted to a limited number of qualified candidates on a semester basis.
  • Minimum commitment: 20 hours per week, with preference given to full-time candidates.
  • This position is based in Bakersfield (Kern County), California.
    • Serve as contact for media and additional information requests
    • Write and edit press releases and other publications
    • Assist with media operations, including archives, accreditation, media lists and game day logistics
    • Assist with special projects including press conferences, publications, broadcast and special events
    • Oversee and maintain Web content
    • Formulate and effectively deliver news pitches, as needed

Minimum Requirements

  • Excellent written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Background in PR, journalism, marketing, communications, sports administration or related field
  • Excellent time management, organizational skills and professional demeanor
  • Strong knowledge of and passion for basketball
  • Strong computer skills including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Internet Explorer
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in pressure situations
  • Individual must be detail-oriented and a self-starter

COMMUNITY AFFAIRS INTERN
Reports To: VP of Sales/Community Partnerships
Primary Responsibilities
  • Program development for department and Bakersfield Jam Education Foundation
  • Create fundraisers and events
  • Promote team and foundation endeavors
  • Coordinate player appearances
  • Facilitate community ticket programs
  • Direct game day community activities

Minimum Requirements:

  • Ability to work all game days and a minimum of two days per week.
  • Must be available on special events and have excellent communication skills (written and spoken).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Must be a responsible and committed individual who is a hard worker and is looking for "hands-on" experience.
