2014 NBA Summer League Update

BAKERSFIELD, July 10, 2014 –Last season’s standout Dennis Horner and former Jam players James Nunnally and Damion James earned a spot to compete at the 2014 NBA Summer League, taking place in Orlando, FL and Las Vegas, NV. As previously announced, Jam Guard Terrel Harris will suit up for the NBA D-League Select team and Bakersfield Jam Head Coach Nate Bjorkgren will serve as an Assistant Coach for the Phoenix Suns in Las Vegas. Jam Head Athletic Trainer Shaun Mirza will join Bjorkgren on the Suns Summer League team, as part of the Athletic Training Staff.

Several players who spent time with the Jam last season on assignment from NBA clubs also highlight NBA Summer League rosters: Dennis Schröder (Atlanta Hawks), John Jenkins (Atlanta Hawks), Archie Goodwin (Phoenix Suns), Jared Cunningham (Sacramento Kings), Dwight Buycks (Toronto Raptors), Ian Clark (Utah Jazz) and Rudy Gobert (Utah Jazz).

6’9” F Horner will be a part of the Minnesota Timberwolves team in the Las Vegas Summer League. Horner was acquired by the Jam in February 2014 in a trade, finishing the 2013-14 season with an average of 12.6 points and 8.0 rebounds in 18 games for Bakersfield.

6’7” F Nunnally is wrapping up his play in the Orlando Summer League as part of the Indiana Pacers, putting up 11.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.8 assists averages in four games. He will next head to Las Vegas to join the Dallas Mavericks Summer League squad. All NBA D-League Second Team selection, Nunnally played in 25 games for the Jam during the 2013-14 season, averaging 14.4 points and 4.6 rebounds.

6’7” F James is playing in the Orlando Summer League for the Detroit Pistons, averaging three points and three rebounds in 15.2 minutes. He finished last season with 13.9 points and 6.7 rebounds average in 27 games for the Jam.

Mirza has spent three seasons with the Bakersfield Jam as the Head Athletic Trainer. He returns to Las Vegas Summer League after serving as the NBA D-League Select Team Athletic Trainer last year.

The 2014 NBA Summer League commenced in Orlando, FL on Saturday, July 5th, embarking on a seven-day 25 tournament-style games, culminating in a Championship game to be played at the Amway Center on Friday, July 11. The basketball event will continue in Las Vegas, NV, beginning tomorrow, Friday, July 11, and feature a series of 67 games in 11 days with the tournament winner crowned at the Thomas & Mack Center on the campus of University of Nevada Las Vegas on Monday, July 21.
