NEW YORK, March 28, 2008 – Austin Toros forward Marcus Williams today earned a GATORADE Call-Up to the Los Angeles Clippers. Williams, who was first Called-Up to the San Antonio Spurs in December before rejoining the Toros later that month, is scheduled to join the Clippers tomorrow and be available for Saturday’s game in Los Angeles when the Clippers host the Memphis Grizzlies at STAPLES Center.
Williams has appeared in 36 games for the Toros this season, averaging 19.2 points, while shooting 52 percent from the field, to go with 6.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.5 steals in 34.9 minutes. He earned D-League.com Performer of the Week honors for his efforts during the week of March 10.
The 23rd GATORADE Call-Up this season, Williams was signed by Los Angeles for the remainder of the regular season. He joins a Clippers squad with a 21-50 record this season.
Originally selected by the San Antonio Spurs in the second round (33rd overall) of the 2007 NBA Draft, Williams appeared in seven preseason games with the Spurs where he averaged 3.3 points and 2.6 rebounds before being waived on October 27. Williams re-joined the Spurs during his first Call-Up, playing in one game before being waived on Dec. 29.
Before making himself available for the 2007 Draft, Williams played two years at the University of Arizona. During his freshman year, Williams was named to the Pac-10 All-Freshman team after averaging 13.0 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 33 games. As a sophomore, he earned First Team All-Pac-10 honors after averaging 16.6 points and 6.7 rebounds.
