Austin Toros Draft History


2005: Jamar Smith
8th Overall

In 2005, center Jamar Smith was drafted by the Austin Toros from Maryland University. Before signing with the Toros, Smith played in the Premier League in Israel with Maccabi Haifa in the 2004-2005 season. After two seasons with the Toros, Smith signed a one year contract with Fastweb Junior Casale Monferrato where he averaged 12.4 points per game. Smith now plays for Entente Orleans 45 in France where he has begun playing in the 2010-2011 season. So far, Smith is averaging 6 points per game and is shooting 54.6 percent from the field, 34.7 percent from the arc and 67.3 percent from the foul line.


2006: Darius Washington, Jr.
10th Overall

In the 2006 NBA D-league draft Washington singed with the Austin Toros as the 10th pick in the first round. In December of 2007, Washington was called up to the Spurs after Tony Parker became injured, where he played a total of 18 games. After his time with the Spurs, Washington played for the Ural Great Perm of Russia- A Super League for the 2008-2009 season. He recently received Macedonian citizenship where he currently plays for the Macedonian National Basketball Team. In the 2009-2010 Eurocup he averaged 21.6 points per game, 4.5 assists and shot 64.7 percent from the field.


2007: Kevin Pittsnogle
12th Overall

With the 12th overall selection in the 2007 NBA D-League Draft the Austin Toros selected Kevin Pittsnogle. The 6’11 sharp shooter from West Virginia wowed America during the 2005 NCAA Tournament when he led West Virginia to the Elite Eight. Pittsnogle averaged 7.6 points per game before being released by the Austin Toros in January 2008. Currently Pittsnogle has hung up is sneakers and is enjoying family life back in West Virginia.


2008: Robert McKiver
16th Overall

In the 2008 NBA D-League Draft the Austin Toros selected Robert McKiver with the 16th overall pick. Robert McKiver was a standout guard for University of Houston and played in 12 games for the Austin Toros during the 2008-2009 D- League season. McKiver spent the 2009-2010 season in Argentina, where he played for Quilmes Mar del Plata. He averaged 10.5 points per game, 3.1 assists and shot 32% behind the 3-point line during the 2009-2010 season with Quilmes Mar del Plata.


2009: Alonso Gee
6th Overall

In the 2009 NBA D-League Draft the Austin Toros selected Alonzo Gee with the 6th overall pick and quickly embraced the dynamic player into the organization. The former University of Alabama star averaged 21 points per game and 6.6 rebounds per game with the Toros. Gee’s stellar ability quickly captured the attention of teams in the NBA and on March 7, 2010 Alonzo Gee was called up by the Washington Wizards. After a short stent with the Wizards, Gee was signed by the San Antonio Spurs and placed on assignment back in Austin with the Toros. Alonzo Gee represented the Austin Toros in the 2009-2010 D-League All-Star game and was named the 2009-2010 NBA D-League Rookie of the Year later that season.
