Austin, TX Dec. 28, 2011 – The Austin Toros announced roster changes today including the return of Luke Zeller (after participating in the San Antonio Spurs training camp), Leo Lyons (returning to play after a preseason injury), and Da’Sean Butler (who was acquired by affiliation after participating in the Spurs training camp). All three will be active for the Toros’ Thursday matinee against the Springfield Armor at Cedar Park Center at 1:00 p.m. To make room for the changes Myles McKay, Dan Vandervieren, and Stefan Welsh were released.
Zeller (6-11, 245 Notre Dame) played in four games for the Toros prior to the Spurs training camp invitation earlier this month. Zeller started in all four games averaging 10 points and five rebounds. He played in the 2011 USA Men’s Basketball Pan Am games in October.
Lyons (6-9, 206 Missouri) returns for his second season with the Toros. During the 2010-11 season, he played in 34 games averaging 15 points and six rebounds. Lyons was also a member of the bronze medal winning 2011 USA Men’s Basketball team.
Butler (6-7, 230 West Virginia) was drafted in the second round of the 2010 NBA Draft by the Miami Heat and waived at the end of training camp. He was signed by the Spurs in 2011 and waived earlier this month. Butler helped West Virginia advance to the Final Four in 2010, earning the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award for Men’s Basketball and later designated a finalist for the John R. Wooden Award.
