SAN ANTONIO, TX (September 14, 2012) – Spurs Sports & Entertainment today announced that Taylor Jenkins has been promoted to head coach of the Austin Toros. Jenkins has served as an assistant coach with the Toros for the past four seasons.
“Taylor has been an integral part of the Toros success over the past four years,” SS&E President of Sport Franchises RC Buford said. “He’s a bright, young talent and knows our system very well which makes him the ideal person to lead the Toros.”
As an assistant coach with the Toros, Jenkins helped guide Austin to the 2012 NBA D-League Championship and the playoffs in 2009 and 2010. During his tenure with the Toros, Jenkins served as an assistant coach on the Spurs 2009 and 2012 Las Vegas NBA Summer League teams and was as an assistant coach with the NBA D-league Select Team during the 2010 Las Vegas NBA Summer League. He was also an assistant coach for the 2009 and 2012 NBA D-League West All-Star teams.
Prior to joining the Toros, Jenkins interned with the San Antonio Spurs basketball operations department during the 2007-08 season.
Jenkins attended The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Economics, while concentrating in Management and minoring in Psychology. Born and raised in Dallas, Jenkins attended high school at St. Mark’s School of Texas.
The Toros tip-off the 2012-13 season on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at the Texas Legends. Austin’s home opener is Saturday, Dec. 1 vs. the Idaho Stampede.
