Day one of the D-League Showcase. I can say I get excited about this event because it reminds me of my AAU days where you see all your friends and opponents from the league. My team seems to be in high spirits as we travel to the showcase. Even though we are on a losing streak, I feel it in the air like Phil Collins that things are soon to change for our team. Guys really showed some fight the last time we played and I feel that it will carry over as we face the Dakota Wizards on Tuesday morning. Our coaching staff has done a good job in trying to prepare us for our battles and help each player understand what it takes to be successful day in and day out in this league. Many of my teammates haven't experienced this event, but with our veteran leadership coming from players like Squeaky Johnson, Eric Dawson, and myself, we should be able to turn things around sooner than later. Practice is at 12 today so I am looking for our team to have a good one. Lastly, two things to remember… that this is a business trip and that to be able to have any type of success this week, we have to get back to having fun. I'll be playing with that child like faith. Go Toros!

Monday Afternoon…

First, of all great weather and great location for this D-League showcase. Our team practiced at a middle school today for an hour and had a great practice. I felt like we had a solid focus on what needed to be done for this week as we battle our opponents. Tonight is the national championship game and I think most people are going for Auburn, but I just want to see an exciting game. We have an early start tomorrow, so it's time to rest up. Focused on winning.

"What's sunshine without no rain? What's joy without no pain?"-J.Cole
This is what I am playing early this morning. It's game day. It's an early start for us as we are set to do battle with the Dakota Wizards. Roommates, Lewis Clinch and Squeaky Johnson, I can tell are focused on the battle and seem to be in good spirits. How do I know? It's probable because of them getting up early to get some breakfast and we all have our laptops playing musical selection that will help set our morning off right. We have an 8:30 team meeting to discuss our strategy for war this morning, but on the way to the elevator this morning, we find out that it does not work. Did I mention we are on the eighth floor? Lol..so we take service elevator and go through the kitchen..lol. The meeting went well and now we are on the bus traveling to the gym. Scanning the room, I see that my guys are focused to the information that Coach Taylor is giving us. Our coaches have done their part and have put time into these video and personnel break downs so now it's on us as a team to get this first win in the showcase, the first win to begin our streak, and a win that is allowing us to go into the right direction. It's game time. Talk with you later.

From COO Peter Lubell,

Couldn't be prouder of our guys today. Up by 30 with 9 minutes left in the game. A great game like this is what the team needs to break out of our current slump. Most of all, it looks like we're back to having fun and playing like a team. Lewis Clinch and Erik Dawson have been playing great today but it's been an all-around great defensive effort that is going to get us the W.

Tuesday Afternoon…

We finally got that win. Let me say it again "We Finally got that win!" I have to say it feels good and it's a relief for my team mates and I. It was a hard fought game by both squads, but it was our team defense and togetherness that allowed us to get a good team victory. Even though it's the NBA D-League, I have to say I am still surprised when I see the same teams, such as today's opponent, the Dakota Wizards, and see a whole new team. There was only one familiar face on the team that I have matched up against for years and that's Renaldo Major. It was weird seeing that team with no Mo Baker or an Idaho with no Lance Alred. Those that have been around the league know and understand what I mean, but at the same time it shows the growth and develop that this league has to offer for it's players and fans for the future. Overall, this was a good win for the Toro family. Now we just got to build on it. Now just going over to watch the rest of the games at the convention center.

"Nothing happens unless first we dream"-Carl Sanburg. Well, it is the eve of our final game here at the D-league Showcase down at San Padre Island. We have a late practice today with a team meeting starting prior to our practice. Yesterday’s game was a good win for us and I hope we can now string these wins together. The league seems to be close in talent, and the reason the teams that are up in the standings have figured out the mental part of the game. This is really a league of opportunity and all the teams here are seeing that first hand. Whether you are on the court playing or branding yourself off the court, each guy has a chance to change their future. Last night, some of the guys got together and just sat and talked about our game play and what we can do to build on our recent success. One thing that I learned over the years while playing in this league is that you should never forget why you are here. What's your purpose? Never lose sight of that because we can only worry about the things that we can control. Pretty much everything else is luck. I know our game tomorrow is going to be a good one. We are matched up against a star performer in our league, Trey Johnson. I know we will be prepared for the matchup. So stay tuned...Go Toros! Today was a good day. We as a team had a good practice. It always amazes me how a win can change the mood and atmosphere in a place. I am not saying we are getting ahead of ourselves, but our swag is on (light switch on!) Some of the guys attended some of the afternoon games and the 3pt/slam dunk contest that featured some of the players around the league. Question: Why wasn't there any Toro representation? Smh... Other than that my Seminoles beat the Duke blue devils (shout out to my teammate Lance Thomas). We have a tough one tomorrow, so I am going to shut it down. Remember we play at 7:15 pm tomorrow night on NBA TV. Also, be sure to check out Squeaky Johnson production of Toro tv. It is a good one... God is a good God and I just want you all to know that...later.

Another win on the road and to close out the showcase for our team. We came out real good, but still have a lot of room for improvements. It was great seeing some of my boys on the other teams. I didn't get a chance to hang out much cause this trip was all about business. We have an early start as we head back to Austin tomorrow. Glad we are going home..lol. Been on the road a while now and ready to get back to the apartments. I know the others feel the same way. Eric Dawson played well tonight. Squeaky did a good job running the show. My man, Kevin Palmer, dunked on somebody so hard tonight! Man! Lance played a solid game and did a good job defending Trey Johnson. Overall, we have s solid team. I like this team. Now let's keep building on this success we have and get these road wins that are coming up. Good night and good morning in some parts of the world. I'm gone...

Friday Morning, January 14, 2011

It's an early start to our day. It's one of those airport travel days, which you can hear some of refer to them as being in an "Airport Flow". The weird thing to this travel morning is that my alarm did not ring, but my roommate woke me up. Happy to be going back to Austin? Ummm....yes! Why? No specific reason but I am...lol. Right now, I just have the music playing some R&B while we take this hour and some change drive to the airport. Good bye South Padre. I know you may be a better place for summer and spring break functions, but your weather for the D-League Showcase was not right...lol. How do you give all the players a view of your sea and the only thing we see is hard waves crashing, purple skies, and cool temperatures. It just wasn't right...lol. Overall, this was a good road trip as we head back to Austin. We finished 2-2. Now we will rest up and head back "to the lab" (the gym) to polish any areas that still need work. (Black and silver, black and silver, black and silver, black and silver...yeah..you know what it is...) Have a great day people. I'm gone....
