NEW YORK, March 29, 2010 – The San Antonio Spurs have signed Alonzo Gee of the Austin Toros, it was announced today. Gee’s GATORADE Call-Up is the 29th of the 2009-10 NBA Development League season and the second for him this season. He joins 74 other NBA players with NBA D-League experience.
Gee appeared in 36 games for the Toros this season, averaging 21.0 points, 6.6 rebounds and 38.2 minutes, recording four double-doubles. He scored a season-high 34 points in a 127-94 victory over the Sioux Falls Skyforce on Jan. 6 in Austin.
Gee returns to the NBA following a GATORADE Call-Up to the Washington Wizards on March 7. In 11 games, two starts, for the Wizards, Gee averaged 7.4 points, 2.9 rebounds and 16.5 minutes. On March 26, Gee earned his first NBA start, scoring a career-high 19 points in a 107-96 loss at Charlotte.
A four-year contributor at Alabama, Gee averaged 12.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 128 career NCAA games en route to being named an All-SEC selection in both his junior and senior seasons. He finished his collegiate career 11th in school history in scoring (1,630 points) and 18th in rebounds (730). He became only the 11th player in Crimson Tide history to score at least 1,500 points and 700 rebounds.
Gee is expected to join the Spurs tonight and be available on Wednesday, March 31 when the team hosts the Houston Rockets in San Antonio.
