Austin Toros Coach Brad Jones Joins Utah Jazz Staff

AUSTIN, TX September 7, 2012 – Spurs Sports & Entertainment today announced that Austin Toros head coach Brad Jones has resigned, effective immediately, to accept an assistant coach position with the Utah Jazz. Jones, named head coach of the Toros in 2010, coached two seasons and led the team to a 2011-12 NBA D-League championship.

“We thank Brad Jones for his efforts in Austin,” said RC Buford, president of sports franchises for Spurs Sports & Entertainment. “While it’s easy to measure the success Brad enjoyed in leading the Toros to the 2012 D-League Championship what impressed us was his ability and desire to teach and develop young talent. We’ll miss his leadership and knowledge but, at the same time, we are thrilled that he has the opportunity to join the Utah Jazz coaching staff.”

Under Jones’ leadership, the Toros went 61-48 (.560) and seven players received 12 GATORADE Call-Ups to NBA teams. Last season, the team set a new franchise regular season wins record finishing 33-17 and a D-League best season start record of 18-4 for 22 games played.

Prior to the Toros, Jones was the head coach of the Utah Flash (D-League) and scout for the Utah Jazz.
