Catching up with the Toros

Austin Toros GM Sean Marks discusses the State of the Toros Basketball Team and how he's viewed the first part of the season.

Q:Tell us about the recent trade with the Texas Legends and what Chris Roberts will bring to the Toros.

Chris is a very dynamic player that plays extremely hard at both ends of the court. His game has improved dramatically over the past two seasons. He is a player that will very quickly earn the respect of the Toros faithful. Chris has great athletic ability and is able to guard multiple positions. It is on the defensive end that Chris will really leave his mark. We are extremely excited about having a player of his caliber and potential representing the Toros.

Q:How difficult was trading Justin Dentmon?

It was a difficult decision to move Justin after what he has meant to the franchise and what he has helped the Toros accomplish in his time here. However, this move puts Justin in a place that he can further his aspirations of making the NBA and we in return get a bright new star in the D-League.

Q: How do you feel Coach Taylor Jenkins has done in his first year with the Toros?

He has a great approach to the games and it has been great to see him develop as a coach and a mentor to the players. Taylor and his staffs' work ethic is something that the players respect and believe in. The staff has done a great job dealing with several injured players while in the meantime developing our healthy guys. The staff is happy with the group of young men we have on the team and with the parity across the league, expect an exciting second half of the year.

Q: Are the Spurs happy with the development of Cory Joseph in Austin?

The Toros experience for Cory has been great. It has been very clear to see the progress that Cory has made both in his level of consistent play and the growth in his leadership qualities. The Toros coaching staff has direct contact with the Spurs player development coaches to monitor and implement a plan for Cory while in Austin. We are looking forward to Cory continuing to grow and develop over the next half of the season whether in a Spurs or Toros Uniform.
