Austin Toros Complete Coaching Staff
Austin, TX November 1, 2012 – The Austin Toros today announced the hire of Ken McDonald and Ira Newble as assistant coaches for the Austin Toros. McDonald and Newble will join Head Coach Taylor Jenkins for the 2012 NBA D-League Draft on Friday, November 2nd in Austin at Big Daddy’s Burgers and Bar starting at 5:30pm.
"The Toros are excited to welcome Ira and Ken to our family,” said Toros Head Coach Taylor Jenkins. “Both guys bring many years of basketball experience as players and coaches at the highest levels. Their knowledge and passion to coach the game of basketball will greatly benefit the development of our players."
Ira Newble spent the 2011-12 season as an Assistant Coach with the Cleveland Cavaliers NBA D- League affiliate, Canton Charge. He played professionally in Spain, Greece and Israel from 2009-10. Newble finished the 2007-08 NBA season with the Los Angeles Lakers, played for the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2003-08, and the Atlanta Hawks from 2001-03. He played for the San Antonio Spurs during the 2000-01 season. Newble spent time in the D-League playing for the Idaho Stampede followed by the IBA’s Wisconsin Blast after completing collegiate play at Miami University in Ohio (1995-97).
Ken McDonald served as Head Coach at Western Kentucky from 2008-2011, leading them to the Sun Belt Regular Season Championship and Sun Belt Tournament Championship during the 2009 season. McDonald has held Assistant Coach positions at the University of Texas under Rick Barnes (2004-08), at Georgia (2003-2004), Western Kentucky (1998-2003) and at Clemson University (1994-98). He was the Head Coach for the St. Paul Revelles from 1992-1993. McDonald graduated from Providence where he played shooting guard from 1991-1992.
