The 5th seeded Charlotte Bobcats upset the 4th seeded NBA D-League Select team 85-75 in the quarterfinals of the 2013 NBA Summer League inaugural tournament on Saturday, July 20, in the Thomas & Mack Center located on the campus of UNLV.
Charlotte had four players in double-figures including a game high 17 points for Adbul Gaddy while Troy Daniels added 13 and Jerome Dyson added 12 and Jamie Skeen tallied 12 points and a game high 11 rebounds. The NBA D-League Select Team was led by Elijah Milsap and Darnell Jackson who each tallied 12 points on the night while Kyle Weaver added 10.
The Bobcats outscored the D-League Select Team 13-3 in the final minutes of the opening quarter to take a 19-12 advantage heading into the second quarter. The Bobcats were led by Jamie Skeen and Henry Sims who each scored four points, the D-League Select Team was led by Stefhon Hannah with six points.
Charlotte maintained their lead throughout the second quarter and took a 38-31 halftime lead. Millsap led the D-League Select team in the quarter with eight points while Gaddy tallied seven points for the Bobcats. Both teams struggled from the field from the field in the opening half of play, the Bobcats shooting 38 percent (14-37) while the D-League Select Team shot 33 percent on (11-33).
The Bobcats went on an 8-0 run late in the third quarter building their largest lead of the quarter of 15 before taking a 60-48 lead heading into the final quarter. Darnell Jackson led the D-League Select Team eight points while Gaddy led the Bobcats with six.
Charlotte maintained their lead throughout the fourth quarter leading by as many as xx in the final period.
The Bobcats (4-1) will take on the winner of the Lakers/Warriors game on Sunday in the 2013 NBA Summer League Tournament Semi-Finals in the Thomas & Mack Center. The game marks the end of the road for the NBA D-League Select Squad, finishing the tournament at 4-1, their only loss coming in tournament play.
