Tony Barone was announced as interim head coach for the Memphis Grizzlies on Dec. 28, 2006. Prior to that he served the last two seasons as the Grizzlies Director of Player Personnel.
Prior to joining the Grizzlies in 2000, he served as
the head coach at Texas A&M from 1991 through '98 with his '94 team
earning a berth in the NIT Tournament. He was also selected as
Southwestern Conference Coach of the Year while at Texas A&M. He served
as head coach at Creighton from '85-91, earning Missouri Valley
Conference Coach of the Year on two occasions.
He has more than 34 years
of playing and coaching experience including assistant coach positions
at Duke University ('72-74) and Bradley ('78-85).
Barone was an Academic
All-American and received a bachelor's degree in English from Duke.
