Entering his 12th season as head athletic trainer for the club, Jasen Powell brings with him a
great deal of experience and is a familiar face in the Clippers’ organization.
Powell was in his fourth year with the San Francisco 49ers as an assistant athletic trainer
when he made the move back to Los Angeles prior to the 1999-00 season. He spent the 1994-
95 season with the Clippers as an assistant athletic trainer, after spending three seasons as a student
athletic trainer at Cal Poly Pomona. Powell’s previous experience also includes an internship
with the Atlanta Falcons in their 1995 training camp.
Powell was a student-athlete, lettering three seasons as a point guard on the basketball team
at Cal Poly Pomona after transferring from San Diego State. He graduated from Cal Poly Pomona
with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and Health Promotion in 1995. In 1997, he created the
Jasen Powell Health Promotion Scholarship. The personally-funded scholarship is available to
college-bound students in the Oakland Unified School District, who are interested in the field of
health care. He is actively involved in the National Basketball Trainers Association and served as
the athletic trainer for the Eastern Conference team in the 2004 NBA All-Star Game. Powell is currently the Western
Conference representative for the NBATA and is on the advisory board as an active member for "Kids Powered by Fitness",
a fitness and lifestyle organization promoting healthcare and wellness for children between the ages 6-13.
Powell is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainer’s Association and is a credentialed Performance
Enhancement Specialist and a credentialed Corrective Exercise Specialist. He is also a member of the National Strength and
Conditioning Association. In addition, Powell is the first head athletic trainer in the NBA to have played collegiate basketball.
A native of Oakland, Calif., Jasen attended Bishop O’Dowd High, where he was an All-Northern California selection in
basketball and competed against NBA player Jason Kidd (Dallas).
Powell, his wife Mia and son Aaron reside in Pasadena.
