Brian James is in his third season as an assistant coach with the Sixers and has 13 years of NBA coaching experience, including four as a lead assistant. Prior to joining the Sixers, he spent two years as an advance scout for numerous NBA teams.
James served as an assistant coach with Milwaukee for three seasons from 2005-06 through 2007-08. In addition to the Bucks, James had held coaching positions with Washington (2001-03), Toronto (1999-2001) and Detroit (1995-98). His stints with the Wizards and Pistons came as a member of Doug Collins’ staff.
Prior to working in the NBA, James coached high school basketball in the state of Illinois for 18 years. Split between four different high schools, James compiled a varsity career coaching record of 196-79 (.713) and reach the state tournament four times.
A graduate of Illinois State University, James holds a masters degree from Northeastern Illinois University. In between his time with the Wizards and Bucks, James was an NBA analyst for ESPN.com.
James has three children, Christopher, Dayna and Brady.
