Bernard Smith enters his second season with the Sixers coaching staff after spending the 2004-05 season as an assistant coach for the Portland Trail Blazers.

Smith began his career in the NBA in Philadelphia where he worked in Sponsorship Sales with the 76ers for six years (1996-02). Smith then moved to Portland where he was the video coordinator for the Trail Blazers for two seasons (2002-04). He was promoted to assistant coach prior to the start of the 2004-05 season. Smith also served as the video coordinator for the WNBA’s Portland Fire in 2002-03.

A native of Philadelphia, Smith starred at Martin Luther King High School where he was a member of the All- Public League team in 1986. He then went on to attend East Stroudsburg (Pa.) College (1986-89) where he played point guard for the basketball team, but suffered a knee injury that ended his playing career prematurely.

Smith has a daughter, Karai, and a son, Javon.
