TRAINING CAMP PROFILES: MARQUS BLAKELY

The Clippers added five players prior to training camp, rounding out the roster at 20. Here’s a snapshot of each guy to help you get a little more familiar with them before Wednesday’s open scrimmage at USC’s Galen Center.

Marqus Blakely, F, 6-5/220. Blakely, who was a star at the University of Vermont, played 35 games in the NBA Development League between the Sioux Falls SkyForce and Iowa Energy, averaging 15.1 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game. It is not the first time the versatile forward has been in camp with the Clippers. As an undrafted rookie in 2010-11 he drew attention for his ability to get to the rim in transition and was among the last players cut before opening night. Blakely was in Rockets camp after the lockout last year, but was cut after the team’s final preseason game.

Asked to describe his game, Blakely said, “More defensively, understanding defensive tactics, and using my athleticism to disrupt offensive plays, running the floor, being athletic finishing above the rim.

“That’s probably where I feel the most comfortable, in transition, being able to attack the rim.”

Vinny Del Negro: "Marqus has excellent athleticism, he's a terrific guy, plays hard, can play a couple positions, can guard multiple positions. The guys we brought in are guys that we're just giving an opportunity to compete right now and to improve."
