Summer League Practice Recap: Day 2

ORLANDO – The Clippers kicked off day two with a spirited early morning practice.

Assistant coach Brian Adams led the first session with 5-on-0 drills aimed at getting the players more familiarized with the playbook. Each one of the five-man teams went over play after play with plenty of stops in between from head coach Brendan O’Connor.

“I liked our guys hustle today,” O’Connor said. “We put them through a lot of drills this morning and they took each one head on.”

The nearly three-hour practice was highlighted by two games between the blue and white squads. Royce White was instrumental in getting the white team the first of their two victories.

“I had a lot of fun today,” White said. “Guys are playing each other really hard, so it brings the best out of everyone. I just want to continue to do my part.”

His part was pretty significant as he hit the game winning 3-point shot as the white squad won Game 1, 5-4. The second game was smooth for the white team as they beat the blue squad, 5-1. After the two games were finished, O’Connor wrapped up practice with a short speech and the first of the two practices came to an end.

The day’s second practice kicked off with shooting drills from the corners and the elbow. Amath M’Baye was the highlight of those drills, missing only a few shots during the 15-minute session.

After drills were finished, the team broke up into separate groups with guards working with guards and bigs working with bigs. Liam McMorrow, a 7-2 rookie center from Tennessee Tech, was a standout among the bigs, active on both the offensive and defensive boards the boards. He grabbed nearly every missed shot.

Once the breakout drills were complete, the team did some light shooting and day two of summer league practices came to a close.
