Rivers: Douglas-Roberts Sprained Ankle; Ingles To Start

LAS VEGAS – Chris Douglas-Roberts’ strong showing in his start at small forward Friday didn’t come without a price.

Head coach Doc Rivers said Douglas-Roberts sprained his ankle while dropping in 10 points in 23 minutes. It doesn’t sound particularly serious, but the small forward will sit Saturday against the Nuggets.

“Nothing bad, but we’re just not going to play him,” Rivers said. “But we’re still going to play guys. I kind of watch the other team and who they have out on the floor for me in games like this to decide how long I’m going to play our guys.”

Joe Ingles will get his first start of the season at small forward, according to Rivers. Ingles would be the fourth different player to start at small forward in five games.

Rivers will also give J.J. Redick a night of rest, plugging Jamal Crawford into the starting lineup.

“He’ll start, but I don’t want to play him a lot, so it’ll be interesting where we go from there,” Rivers said. “We may go big and just try a different lineup, because Jamal, I just don’t like using him a lot of minutes right now.”

Crawford had 25 points in 25 minutes last night against the Jazz, including the game-sealing three-pointer as time ticked down in the fourth.

“He was really good,” Rivers said. “Especially that last shot.”
