Playa Vista, Calif. – Chris Paul got to play alongside his golfing idol Wednesday morning in North Carolina.
Paul took part in the Wyndham Pro-Am round in North Carolina with Tiger Woods, telling a group of reporters afterward at a press conference how Woods played a major role in his love for golf, which has become a hobby for Paul.
“To actually play 18 holes and enjoy it that much, he probably doesn’t realize it, but he’s the reason why I even play golf,” Paul said at the conference. “I would’ve never been introduced to the game or been as big a fan of the game if not for him, so to have that opportunity is truly a once in a lifetime chance.”
Paul said it was fun to see Woods’ competitive nature and added that even the pro-am round got a little competitive. That just added to the fun for both players. “I don’t play basketball with my brother and dad as much as I did as a kid, so now we play golf,” Paul said. “To see someone like that who has done it so well for so long is really an honor.”
After the round, Paul tweeted, “Fun round today with the GOAT!” along with a picture with Woods. It seemed Woods enjoyed Wednesday morning’s experience just as much.
“We had a bunch of fun,” Woods said at his press conference. “Playing with Chris was a blast. Obviously, hell of an athlete. But he’s a great dude to play with. We had a lot of fun.
He comes to a lot of my foundation events. I’ve gotten to know him over the years. We never played golf, always wanted to, but this was the first time and just had an absolute blast.”
