Clippers Sign Thomas - Press Conference Quotes

Clippers Vice President of Basketball Operations Elgin Baylor

On signing Tim Thomas: “We’re very happy with the fact that we now have Tim Thomas. We hope that he can continue to pick it up like he did in the playoffs. Mike and I talked about getting a big, a guy who could shoot the ball from the perimeter and play multiple positions and we feel that Tim can do that. He can hit the outside shot; play the 3, 4 and the 5. He’s a great athlete and a good acquisition and we’re looking forward to a great year from him.”

Clippers Head Coach Mike Dunleavy

On signing Tim Thomas:
“Our objective is to get where he just came from, the Western Conference Finals. One good way of doing that was to snatch Tim from Phoenix and go forward. We are very excited about the signing of Tim. His ability to shoot the ball from outside and his ability to play multiple positions made him stand out.”

On Thomas’ performance in the playoffs:
“We love how well he’s played in the playoffs. Every time he’s been in the playoffs he’s put up strong numbers for his teams and that’s something really nice to have when you talk about where we want to go. Our objective isn’t just making the playoffs but making it far in the playoffs. I think with a guy like Tim he’s going to help us a great deal. I think he’s going to fit in extremely well with our guys and we’re very pleased to have him.”

Clippers Forward Tim Thomas

On signing with the Clippers:
“I’m very excited to be here. I thank Elgin and Mike for giving me the opportunity to play here in my hometown of Los Angeles. It’s a blessing and I’m very happy to be here.”

On playing in Los Angeles:
“Now that I’m a Clipper I’m looking forward to helping this team get over the hump. It was a stressful, hard-fought series with Los Angeles but now that I’m here with the Clippers I feel like I’m that key addition to get us over the hump and I’m looking forward to it.”

On his decision to sign with the Clippers:
“It was pretty much a family decision. I’ve been living here for three years now so to have the opportunity to be home and play at home was an opportunity that presented itself and I had to take it. I think its going to be a good thing. Phoenix was a blessing for me, especially with what happened to me earlier in the year. I appreciate and thank them for the chance but now its time to move forward.”

On playing a different style of offense:
“It doesn’t matter. I’m a basketball player who can play so many different positions. Coach Dunleavy can put me out there in so many different positions so it doesn’t matter. Phoenix was great with there running style, but I’ve been in situations where everything has been more structured and I’m all for that. I’m just looking forward to going out and playing the best basketball I can.”

On his attitude on the court:
“I just go out and play basketball. I just go out and take advantage of what’s there. I’m just about winning games and whatever it takes that’s what I’m about.”

On signing with the Clippers instead of the Suns:
“I just think that everything happens for a reason. To have the opportunity to play at home was the best situation for me. The experience with Phoenix was great but I think this situation with the Clippers will be better and I’m looking forward to it.”
