Q&A With Cuttino Mobley

POSTED: August 3rd, 2005

Cuttino Mobley showed off his new uni to the Los Angeles media on Wednesday.
The Clippers proudly announced the addition of guard Cuttino Mobley to the LAC roster, and Clippers.com was able to snag the University of Rhode Island grad for an exclusive Q&A at his welcoming press conference.

With the sun shining and great weather, you couldn't have picked a better day for a press conference. How are you enjoying LA so far?
LA is good. I always come to LA in the summer. Its a beautiful place. And to be on the Clippers is a nice little challenge for me to help this team become a winning team. Its a good thing all around."

You chose the Clippers over other offers from teams around the league. What was it about this situation that intrigued you the most?
"Its a challenge for me. Here, I get my own identity and [the Clippers] are on that cusp of going to the playoffs. I want to be a part of that and I think we can do it."

Have you had a chance to speak with any of your new teammates?
"Yea, I talked to a bunch of the guys. I talked to Rebraca. I talked to Elton Brand and I talked to Corey Maggette. I can't wait to get together with them in Training Camp."

You've played with some great point guards in Mike Bibby and Steve Francis. What are your thoughts on the Clippers' young floor general, Shaun Livingston?
"I haven't seen him play a lot, but what I did see I loved. The kid has so much vision on the court. He's got a great eye. I spoke with the old vet, Mark Jackson, and he was telling me that Livingston is something special. So that's another great thing I have to look forward to."

What do you think is the most important thing you'll bring to the table for the 2005-06 Clippers?
"Belief. That's what its all about. If you believe, it doesn't matter where you start at---its where you finish. Its all about believing."

You proudly mentioned your Philadelphia roots in today's press conference. What has growing up there meant to your game and how does it feel to be a part of the Philly fraternity of ballers?
"Oh, its huge! If you come outta [Philadelphia] into the league, you've struggled. You've done your job and you've gotten your bumps and bruises. I was just in Jamaica with my best friends, [Raptors Guard] Alvin Williams and [Pistons Forward] Rasheed Wallace talking about this. Nights and nights of going out and just shooting and playing on the playground, switching from one team to the next in summer league, and different things like that. Just being here today is a blessing."

Finally, what do you think the next five years have in store for you and the Clippers?
"Hopefully, good things. You have to pray on that one. Just put God first and work hard. All that matters is the ability to look in the mirror at the end of the day and know that you gave it your all."
