Clippers Head Coach Mike Dunleavy
On the Lakers' Kobe Bryant:
“Incredible performance by Kobe, I thought our guys defended him as well as he could have been defended. He went on that 3-point shooting barrage and that was pretty incredible. We made him work for it, but when it came down to it, he made the shot that counted.”
On the Clippers' final possession:
“We needed five-tenths of a second more. We got the shot off and made the basket, it just took a little more time than we expected.”
On defending against Bryant:
“I bet I don’t go back and find a shot that he made where somebody wasn’t there with a hand in his face. I don’t remember him having any clean looks at all . Some of the shots that he had, especially those that were particularly in front of me, I couldn’t have defended it better without blocking his shot.”
On the loss:
“There was a lot of things I was proud of. We were down double digits, and our guys came back and took the lead. They stayed poised and kept fighting, but Kobe just made a tough bank shot in traffic there at the end.”
On the Lakers:
“We were sending guys at [Kobe], we were double-teaming him, guys had hands there. It wasn’t like he was getting uncontested shots. On top of that, Cook must have touched him also because he also had some people in his face and he knocked down some big shots. A couple possessions where we did get them to miss, we didn’t claim those boards--they got extra possessions that cost us. Bottom line, we probably needed only one more of those to get a victory.”
Clippers Forward Elton Brand
(28 points and 10 rebounds)
On guarding Kobe Bryant:
"We needed to trap a little more and get the ball out of [Kobe's] hands, regardless. That's what we did in the fourth quarter and the end, and that's when we caught up. But when you have four other shooters on the court, it's just a little tough to trap and then try to rotate."
On the Clippers' final possession:
"It was a little difficult. We got an opportunity to at least attempt to tie the ball game. The play actually worked. Cuttino did hit the shot, but too bad for us the time expired."
Clippers Guard Shaun Livingston
(6 points and 10 assists)
On his late game struggles:
"I should have been more aggressive. I was a little passive. That was my fault as a point guard."
On the Clippers' final possession:
"That play seemed like it ran fast. I thought 4.4 seconds was a lot of time, but it just ran down on us."
Lakers Head Coach Phil Jackson
On the win:
“We were able to ride a hot hand tonight in the second half and turned it up a notch with Kobe. This rivalry made for a pretty exciting ball game.”

Untimely turnovers and offensive rebounds all hurt the Clippers on Saturday night, but the Lakers #8, Kobe Bryant, killed them. Bryant single-handedly brought his team back from a double-digit deficit with an almost comical barrage of outside shots and finished the game with 50 points.
