Paul Pierce Writes This Will Be His Final Season

LOS ANGELES – Paul Pierce’s farewell tour will begin this year.

The 18-year NBA veteran wrote in The Players’ Tribune that the 2016-17 season will be his last in the NBA.

“This is it, my final season,” Pierce started. “It’s time to move on from the game of basketball.”

Pierce said after last postseason ended he wanted time to figure out his decision. Before the Clippers began Media Day and headed out to training camp, he made his decision known.

The former NBA champion is currently 16th all-time in points and 15th all-time in games played in NBA history and will see those rankings climb if he plays the whole season. He wrote that he’s at peace with retiring, but he has “one more ride left” as he tries to help bring the Clippers a title.

Pierce, who will turn 39 years old before the start of the season, averaged 6.1 points, 2.7 rebounds and an assist in 18.1 minutes per game last season. For his career, he holds averages of 20 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 34.6 minutes per game.
