The Clippers today signed free agent guard Cuttino Mobley to a multi-year contract, announced Vice President of Basketball Operations Elgin Baylor.

Entering his eighth NBA season, Mobley brings career averages of 17.1 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.2 steals to Los Angeles. In addition, he is known as one of the most accurate three-point shooters in the league, finishing the 2004-05 campaign ranked third in the NBA in three-point field goal percentage (.439).

The 6’4” shooting guard tallied 17.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.12 steals in 66 games played for the Sacramento Kings and Orlando Magic last season. Mobley also connected on 408-342 FG (.438), 150-342 3FG (.439) and 168-205 FT (.820) on the year. Mobley was acquired by Sacramento on January 10, 2005 as part of the trade that sent Doug Christie to the Magic.

“Cuttino is a very tough competitor at both ends of the floor,” stated Baylor. “He shoots the ball extremely well from the perimeter, which will help our low post players. He’s a veteran who brings both playoff experience and leadership.”

Mobley played the first six years of his NBA career with the Houston Rockets, before being traded along with Steve Francis and Kelvin Cato, to Orlando in exchange for Tracy McGrady, Juwan Howard, Tyronn Lue and Reece Gaines on June 29, 2004. He registered his most productive NBA season in 2001, when he averaged 21.7 points and 4.1 rebounds in 71 games played for the Rockets.

“Cuttino is a great addition to our club,” added Clippers Head Coach Mike Dunleavy. “We were looking for a player that would add some key dimensions to our team that we were lacking. His three-point shooting ability was third best in the league last season. He is a solid defender and excellent all around player.”

Named the 1998 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, Mobley averaged 17.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists during his senior season at Rhode Island. He finished his four-year collegiate career with averages of 14.3 points and 4.2 rebounds while ranking first in school history in career free throw percentage (.821) and second in steals.
