The Clippers today signed veteran guard Darrick Martin to a 10-day contract, it was announced by Vice President of Basketball Operations Elgin Baylor.
Martin has averaged 7.9 points, 3.2 assists and 19.9 minutes over nine NBA seasons. This marks his second stint with the Clippers, where he spent his most productive NBA seasons from 1996-97 through 1998-99. During that stretch, Martin averaged 10.1 points and 4.0 rebounds in 201 games played. Martin also helped lead the Clippers to their last playoff appearance, tallying 11.0 points and 4.3 assists in three playoff contests against the Utah Jazz during the 1997 NBA Playoffs.
Last season, Martin tallied 3.4 points and 1.4 assists in 16 regular season games played for the Minnesota Timberwolves. In 16 playoff games with the Timberwolves, Martin recorded 3.1 points and 11.4 minutes, which included starts in the last three games of the Western Conference Finals.
A 1992 graduate of UCLA, Martin finished a standout collegiate career with averages of 9.3 points and 4.9 assists while ranking third on UCLA’s all-time list in career assists (636 assists) and tied for second in games played (129 games).
Martin will be in uniform and will be available for tonight’s contest against the Portland Trail Blazers at STAPLES Center.
