CLIPPERS EXERCISE CONTRACT OPTIONS ON GORDON AND GRIFFIN The Clippers exercised the club’s fourth-year contract option on guard Eric Gordon and the third-year contract option on forward Blake Griffin on Tuesday, Sept. 28. “Eric and Blake are key members of our team and the cornerstones of the Clipper franchise as we move into the future. Their work ethic, talent and commitment to our organization establish an invaluable model of excellence we expect from all of our players," said Neil Olshey, Vice President of Basketball Operations. Gordon, originally selected by the Clippers as the seventh overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, begins his third NBA season and is now signed through the 2011-12 campaign. Under the NBA’s Collective Bargaining Agreement, the Clippers had the right to exercise these contract options. Griffin, the first overall selection by the Clippers in the 2009 NBA Draft is now also signed through the 2011-12 season, with the Clippers holding the right of first refusal. Griffin missed the entire 2009-10 campaign due to a fractured left patella making 2010-11 his official rookie season. To read more, click here » |

CLIPPER ROOKIES REACT AFTER FIRST OFFICIAL NBA PRACTICE With the Clippers opening training camp on Tuesday, Sept. 28 with seven returning players, the club’s 2010-11 training camp roster features six rookies making their NBA debut. Following the first practice of his NBA career, Clippers first 2010 first round draft pick Al-Farouq Aminu was ready for number two. “It was cool. I learned a lot,” Aminu said. “I am just picking it up slowly, but it is just going to get better and better.” “It was smooth,” guard Eric Bledsoe, the 18th pick of the 2010 NBA Draft said. “I was kind of nervous because it was my first NBA practice and I didn’t know what the coaches would think, but I think I did alright.” Former University of Oklahoma standout Willie Warren, who teamed up with Blake Griffin on the Sooners in 2008-09 enjoyed his first time out on the court in a Clipper uniform. “It was great. It was everything I expected it to be,” Warren said. “Guys really came in and worked hard for the two hours that we were in the gym. We just really worked hard and I feel like for the first day of practice we came closer together as a team.” Jon Scheyer, who won the 2010 NCAA Championship with Duke and went undrafted, noticed some similarities to a Mike Krzyzewski practice. “I thought it was good,” Scheyer said. “I’m used to a fast practice and it was really fast here, but we didn’t do much contact today. I think it was a good first step and you can see this team is really hungry.” “It was everything I thought it would be,” former Vermont star Marqus Blakely said. “Being in shape is something that you have to be coming into training camp, now it is just everybody picking it up and giving everybody support out there. It was a great practice.” The Division II Player of the Year at Kutztown State (PA), Stephen Dennis viewed his first time out on an NBA court as an educational experience. “It was great,” Dennis said. “It was a lot of up and down, and a lot of defense. For me, there was a lot of learning. The NBA game allows more space and a more faster pace. I felt I adjusted a little better than I thought I would and felt it was a great practice.” |
