National Champion May Heads Up Thursday’s Workout

The Clippers worked out forwards Sean May and Chris Taft along with guards Daniel Ewing and B.J. Elder Thursday morning at the Spectrum Club South Bay, the team’s practice facility.

May is an early entry candidate in the 2005 NBA Draft, having declared for the draft following his junior season at North Carolina where he led the Tar Heels to the 2005 National Championship. In three years at North Carolina, May averaged 15.8 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. The 6’8” May averaged 17.5 points and 10.7 rebounds per game as a junior in 2004-05 and earned First Team All-ACC honors. He also set the North Carolina single-season record for total rebounds with 397 last year. May was named MVP of the Final Four after scoring 26 points and grabbing 11 rebounds to lead the Tar Heels to a 75-70 victory over Illinois for the championship.

Taft is an early entry candidate in the 2005 NBA Draft, having declared for the draft following his sophomore season at Pittsburgh. Taft averaged 12.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in two seasons at Pittsburgh. The 6’10” Taft was named Big East Rookie of the Year in 2003-04, after averaging 10.9 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. In 2004-05, Taft averaged 13.3 points and 7.5 rebounds per game while shooting .580 from the floor.

Ewing averaged 11.6 points and 2.1 assists per game during his four years at Duke. As a senior in 2004-05, Ewing averaged 15.3 points and 4.0 assists per game and was named Third Team All-ACC. The 6’3” Ewing excelled in the ACC Tournament, earning First Team honors in his junior and sophomore seasons while being named the 2003 ACC Tournament MVP after averaging 20.3 points per game in leading Duke to the championship. The Blue Devils were ranked number one in the nation by the Associated Press for 20 weeks during Ewing’s four years at Duke.

Elder averaged 13.2 points and 2.5 rebounds per game during his four years at Georgia Tech. As a senior in 2004-05, Elder was limited to 23 games due to a hamstring injury but still averaged 12.6 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. The 6’4” Elder was named Second Team All-ACC as a junior in 2003-04 and led the Yellow Jackets to the 2004 Final Four where they were defeated by Connecticut for the title. Elder left Georgia Tech ranked 13th on the school’s all-time scoring list with 1,616 points.
