Back from a week of scouting the NBA Pre-Draft Camp in Chicago, the Clippers Basketball Operations staff held their first workout of the week in Los Angeles on Wednesday afternoon.
Headlining the group was versitile Russian swingman,
Victor Khryapa. Compared most often to Utah's Andrei Kirilenko, Khryapa is a demon in the open court and has uncanny passing abilities for a player his size. At 6'9" (he grew 3 inches after age 18), he also brings solid interior defense and shot blocking with his seven foot wingspan. No stranger to the NBA Draft, Victor declared for both the 2002 and 2003 Draft before withdrawing to spend another year adding to his game. However, word out of his camp this year is that he's in no matter what.
"He is long, he moves well and he's pretty quick," Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy told the Orange County Register after the workout. "He looks like a guy [an NBA team] will take."
Also at the workout was 2003 Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year
Evan Burns. Burns, who Clippers fans might remember from the 2001-02 "Sidelines: LA Hoops" reality series on ESPN, averaged 9.2 ppg and 5.1 rpg for San Diego State last season. An athletic 6-8 big man, Burns has the abiltity to get out in the fast break, fill the lane and finish with authority.
Rounding out the group was Louisville senior
Luke Whitehead. The 6-6 Whitehead led his team in rebounding last year at 7.7 boards per contest, and was second in scoring at 11.1 ppg.
With the Draft a week away, workouts are scheduled almost every day until the 24th. Stay with Clippers.com to follow all the action as the Clippers look to bolster their lineup on Draft Night.
