"The workout went well. I came in here with three talented guys and we competed. That's all you can ask for. It was a good workout."
In terms of your hoops game, how important was it to play three years in college under Mike Montgomery?
"It was very important. Mentally, he helped me a great deal. I really learned how to be a part of a system and learn the game of basketball. I think that was what was most important."
You bring scoring, size, athleticism and a sweet shooting touch to your position. What is your favorite weapon?
"My go-to move is my midrange game and I also like using my length to my advantage. I get a lot of rebounds and tip-ins and kind of just chip away at you until I get what I want."
In addition to hoops, you were a solid volleyball player in High School. Is that your favorite sport outside of basketball?
"To play---yes. The primary reason I played was that the [High School] coach promised me it would add inches to my vertical leap. (Laughs) It was good experience and a lot of fun.
In the fall, you'll be bringing a solid all-around game to the NBA, as well as the greatest afro since Artis Gilmore. Do you draw power from the 'fro?
"(Laughs) That's why they call me Sampson! My hair is my strength! Its just a part of me. I grew it out a while ago and now its become my identity. Can't change it now!
