CLIPPERS TO HAVE ‘BIG LOGO’ CHRISTMAS

Clippers Christmas Day Jerseys

For the third consecutive season, the Clippers will have a BIG Christmas.

In partnership with adidas, the official uniform provider of the NBA, the Clippers will wear blue short-sleeve jerseys as part of the league’s BIG Logo uniform collection.

“I just love the logo,” Clippers longtime equipment manager Pete Serrano said. “The logo says so much about who we are. What better way than to have our logo out in front. I just love the colors.”

The Clippers, who take on the Golden State Warriors in this year’s Dec. 25 finale, are playing on Christmas for the third consecutive year. In 2011-12, they opened the season in Oakland against the Warriors on Dec. 25. They wore traditional red uniforms with a silver snowflake patch and thematic socks and shoes. Last season in their first Christmas Day home game since 1992, they defeated the Denver Nuggets, 112-100, donning the NBA’s BIG Color jerseys, which featured a deep red base color with red numbers outlined in blue.

“I love the structure that every Christmas game we have a different logo or it’s always themed differently,” Serrrano said. “I think it’s extraordinary. I really do. I saw how big it was last year and I think every Christmas we’re going to find something extraordinary.”

This season each of the ten BIG Logo uniforms feature oversized team logos that stand alone on the chest of the team-colored short-sleeve jersey. The logos are a reflective chrome material, which according to adidas is to help celebrate the lights and decorations of the holiday season. Graphics on all warm-up jackets and shooting shirts will feature holiday sweater graphics.

It will be the first time in NBA history all teams playing on Christmas Day will sport short-sleeve jerseys. In a press release, adidas said, the new uniforms continue the company and the NBA’s commitment to “providing players with innovative technology to keep them comfortable and confident when performing at the highest level.”

The jersey is paired with an ultra-lightweight stretch woven short that offers maximum ventilation and will feature chrome piping. While the Clippers will be dressed in blue, the host Warriors will reportedly wear a yellow BIG Logo uniform.

While a number of teams on Christmas Day will be wearing short-sleeve jerseys for the first time in their respective team’s history, both the Warriors and Clippers have already done so. Golden  State was the forerunner for the look last season and the Clippers unveiled a baby blue short-sleeve alternate jersey that they debuted at Media Day. They will wear their baby blue uniforms for the first time in the regular season on Nov. 24 against the Chicago Bulls.

“All of these specialty games really take a lot of planning and are planned out very far in advance,” Serrano said.

Speaking specifically of the Christmas Day uniforms, Serrano added: “These items have been ordered since the end of summer. We’ve been looking at patterns and there have been different accessories as well. There are shoes and other elements that will be little surprises that fans and players and whoever sees them will love.”

All BIG Logo merchandise will be available at retailers beginning Nov. 14.
