Clippers forward Elton Brand was named the Western Conference Player of the Week today for the week ending December 11. Brand averaged 31.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 4.0 blocked shots, 3.8 assists and 1.0 steals in leading the Clippers to a 3-1 record during the week. Brand shot 54.1% from the floor (46-85 FG) and 91.4% from the line (32-35 FT) during the week and posted points/rebounds double-doubles in all four contests.
Brand began the week by scoring a season-high 37 points on 16-23 shooting from the floor while also grabbing 12 rebounds and tying a season-high with six blocks in a 99-89 victory over the Miami Heat on December 5. He also scored 24 points and had 11 rebounds while tying a season-high with six blocks in an 84-79 win over New York on December7. Brand continued his award-winning week with 27 points, 13 rebounds and a season-high six assists and three steals in leading the Clippers to a 101-91 victory over the Phoenix Suns on December 10 for sole possession of first place in the Pacific Division. Brand concluded the week with 36 points and 10 rebounds versus Detroit on December 11.
This is Brand’s second player of the week award this season. He also received the award for the week ending November 20 after averaging 25.0 points, 11.7 rebounds and 2.3 blocked shots in leading the Clippers to a 3-0 record.
Brand was also named the NBA’s Western Conference Player of the Month for November 2005 after averaging 23.7 points, 10.7 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game in leading the Clippers to a 10-5 record.
Brand has now been named NBA Player of the Week four times during his career, earning all four awards with the Clippers. Brand first earned the recognition for the week ending December 9, 2001. He was also named player of the week for the week ending January 4, 2004.
