Clippers forward Elton Brand today was named the Western Conference Player of the Month for November 2005 after averaging 23.7 points, 10.7 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game in leading the Clippers to a 10-5 record.
“I think this is a well deserved honor,” said Elgin Baylor, Vice President of Basketball Operations. “He has simply been sensational.”
Brand was the only player to rank in the top ten in the league in points and rebounds per game. He also ranked in the top five in the league in field goal percentage and blocks per game. Brand scored in double figures in all 15 games during the month, scoring 20 or more points in 12 games while tallying 30 or more points in four contests.
“Elton is most deserving of this award. He had an incredible month,” said Clippers Head Coach Mike Dunleavy. “In addition to his offensive production, his defense has been extremely solid and his leadership ability continues to grow all the time. It truly has been a pleasure to coach him.”
Brand led the Clippers to a 9-2 start, the best in franchise history while also leading Los Angeles to five road victories, half as many wins as the team recorded on the road last season. He also recorded 10 points/rebounds double-doubles in the month, taking sole possession of the franchise record on November 13.
This is the first time Brand has been named player of the month and the first time a Clipper player has received the award since Freeman Williams earned the honor with the San Diego Clippers in December of 1980. Brand has been named Player of the Week three times in his career, including the week ending November 20, 2005, when he led the Clippers to a 3-0 record with 25.0 points, 11.7 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game.
Brand shares monthly honors with Cleveland’s LeBron James, who was named Eastern Conference Player of the Month.
