    BRIAN SIEMAN'S PREGAME REPORT

    Sieman
The scene shifts tonight to the friendlier confines of STAPLES Center as the Jazz and Clippers finish up a home-and-home series that saw the Clips play a solid two and a half quarters in Salt Lake on Saturday. Unfortunately, fatigue caught up with the Clippers, who lost in OT the previous night against Denver and had a very late arrival into Utah. The game was tied at 60 in the third quarter when Utah went on a 30-4 run to put the game out of reach and extending the Jazz's dominance against the Clips at home, running their record to 37-1 in the regular season at Energy Solutions Arena.

Offense wasn’t the issue in Utah, at least not in the first half. It was the other side of the floor that would be cause for concern. The Clippers forced only four turnovers, two of which came late and well after the game was decided. I’ll chalk it up to their thirrd game in four days, but they weren’t active enough. Utah is a team that is absolutely machine like offensively, and if you’re not taking them somewhat out of their comfort zone, they will pick you about possession by possession.

A day of rest, a change of venue, and hopefully a new addition to the line-up in Marcus Camby could certainly bring a different result. Utah will be without Deron Williams which means their best player won’t be on the floor. The Clips have to take advantage tonight at STAPLES. If they can get the same effort from Cat and Thomas and add Ricky Davis’ talents to the mix, they’ll have great chance at picking up win #1.

    CLIPPERS - JAZZ NOTES
    • CONNECTIONS: Clippers guard Jason Hart spent the 2007-08 season with the Jazz...Hart averaged 2.9 ppg and 1.5 assists in 57 games last season with the Jazz...Utah point guard Brevin Knight played last season for the Clippers, averaging 4.6 points and a team-high 4.4 assists....Hart and Knight were traded for each other on July 23, 2008.

    • The Clippers have not won in Utah since January 22, 2003, when they defeated the Jazz 96-89.

    • Since April 18, 1989 the Clippers have lost 37 of their last 38 regular season games in Utah.

    • Los Angeles has lost a total of 11 straight games in Utah.

    • Marcus Camby recorded his career-high of 24 rebounds most recently on Jan. 17, 2008 against the Jazz....Cuttino Mobley hit a career-high seven three-pointers on Dec. 8, 2004 at Utah...Tim Thomas set a career-high with four blocks on Feb. 3, 2000 in Utah against the Jazz.

    • Clippers guard Baron Davis scored a career playoff-high 36 points in Game 2 of the Western Conference Semifinal in Utah...Clippers forward Ricky Davis scored 30 of his 32 points in the second half on Jan. 22, 2007 against the Jazz...Clippers forward Steve Novak played in his first career NBA game on Nov. 1, 2006 in Utah, playing 9:06 and scoring three points...Al Thornton scored 27 points on Feb. 22, 2008 against Utah.

    MISCELLANEOUS NOTES
    • Clippers head coach Mike Dunleavy coached his 1,201th NBA game Nov. 1 vs. the Jazz. He is now 12 games away from tying Alex Hannum (1,213) for 19th on the All-Time NBA Games Coached List... Dunleavy is 14 games away from tying Mike Fratello (1,215) for 18th on the All-Time Games Coached List.

    • Clippers guard Mike Taylor enjoyed a career game Nov. 1 in Utah... The Clippers rookie played a career-high 33:05 and scored 13 points (5-12 FG, 2-2 FT) and dished for a team-high four assists in only his third NBA game... Taylor also grabbed two rebounds and leads the Clippers with a total of 10 assists this season.

      Camby

      Davis
    • MISSING DAVIS AND CAMBY: The Clippers were forced to play for the first time on Nov. 1 in Utah without Marcus Camby and Baron Davis... Camby missed his third straight game with a bruised heel, and Davis did not play due to a sore left hip suffered on Oct. 31 against Denver when he fell hard to the ground after contesting a shot by Dahntay Jones with 9:30 remaining in the second quarter. Davis was immediatley replaced by Eric Gordon and did not return. His status remains doubtful.

    • Chris Kaman recorded his second double-double of the season Nov. 1 at Utah with 11 points and 12 rebounds... Last season, Kaman had a career-high 36 doubledoubles.

    • Clippers rookie center DeAndre Jordan made his NBA debut on Nov. 1 against Utah. Jordan entered in the fourth quarter and played 2:44, scoring two points and grabbing one rebound.

    • STRUGGLING FROM THE FIELD: In their first three games this season, the Clippers have struggled with their shot, shooting .387 from the field and failing to hit 50 percent from the field in any of their games. Last season, it took the Clippers 32 games to shoot 50 percent from the field as they joined only two teams in the last decade - the 2004-05 New Orleans Hornets (41) and the 2003-04 Washington Wizards to have longer such streaks.

    • LOOKING FOR SOME DIMES: The Clippers recorded just 12 team assists Nov. 1 at Utah... Last season the Clips season-low for assists in a game was 11 against Minnesota on Feb. 1, 2008... So far in 2008-09, the Clippers opponents are averaging 25.3 assists per game, while L.A. is passing at a 17.7 per game.

    • RUNNING AWAY: The Utah Jazz used an 18-0 run in the second half to blow open the Nov. 1 game against the Clippers. With the game tied at 60-60 with 4:43 in

    • The Utah Jazz set a franchise record Nov. 1 in Salt Lake City when the committed just four turnovers against the Clippers. The Jazz low turnover number also equaled a Clippers franchise record for the lowest turnovers by an opponent, joining the San Antonio Spurs remarkable four turnover performance in overtime in Dec. 13, 2005.

    • The Clippers failed to break the 80-point mark for the second time this season on Nov. 1 in Utah, falling 101-79. Last season, the Clippers did not reach 80 points 10 times... The Clippers are currently ranked 29th in the NBA, ahead of only the New York Knicks in points allowed... Clippers opponents are averaging 110.3 points per game, while the Knicks are allowing opponents to score 115.0 points per contest early on. Last season, the Clippers finished 18th in points allowed, with their opponents averaging 101.1 points per game.

      Thomas
    • THOMAS GETTING TOUGH ON BOARDS: Clippers forward Tim Thomas is averaging 7.0 rebounds per game so far in 2008-09. The highest rebounding average in the 11-year pro’s career is 5.0, which he put up last season and in 2006-07.

    • Al Thornton is leading the Clippers in scoring (17.0 ppg) field goal shooting (.445) and is second in rebounds (7.3)...Through the first three games of the 2008-09 season, Thornton’s statistics have made a major jump from his rookie year, when he averaged 12.4 ppg, 4.5 rebs and shot .429 from the field.

    • The Clippers have got off to some good starts in the first two games of the season, with the first quarter easily being the highest scoring for the club. The Clippers are averaging 26.6 points in the first quarter... It has been the third quarter that has done the Clippers in so far this season, as L.A. is averaging just 17.0 points in the third stanza through three games.
