GAME 4: WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

Here’s a glimpse at what the Clippers were talking about Friday afternoon at their media availability session at the team hotel:

Asked what it’s like to play the role of defensive stopper…

Chris Paul: “It’s fun to tell you the truth. It’s a little tiring, but it’s cool. Blake and I talk about everything. He’ll be like, ‘C, you need to go.’ And I’ll be like, ‘B, you got to go.’ Like I said, over the course of the season you play different games and you’re like this game calls for you to do this. In a series it’s just like that.”

Asked what difference Doc Rivers has made to team’s defensive edge this season…

Blake Griffin: “We play defense a certain way. And we normally don’t change a whole lot. You have to respect certain guys and obviously there are guys that can score in this league. But we play our way. We don’t change and throw a whole bunch of different things in there to change to teams. We kind of have the attitude that they need to change to us.”

Asked if he appreciates that Rivers doesn’t try to light a fire under the players every time he talks to them…

J.J. Redick: “I do. Even going back to earlier in the season when we were all kind of getting acclimated to each other, we lost some games that we probably shouldn’t have. There was never any panic in November and there certainly wasn’t any panic after Game 1.”

Asked about Jamal Crawford’s all-around effort this season…

Doc Rivers: “He’s been great. He’s been such a great team player. That’s what makes him so special. He’s always been a scorer. Now he’s doing more. He’s making passes. We play him at the point as much as [Darren Collison] when they’re in there together. He makes the right decisions. He’s just been great for our team. He’s a great spirit. It’s another case of not knowing a guy. From afar, you look at him and everyone suggests scorer. Us coaches can go into that negative basement at times. You think, ‘Oh geez, this can just score. That’s all he wants to do.’ He’s been anything but and he’s been great for our team.”
