"We’re picking seventh. The idea is to go with who is the best player available at that time," Clippers head coach Mike Dunleavy said during a press conference after the Draft Lottery on May 20th. "But you also look at the draft in terms of what your needs are. Overall, best player is going to override need, but if you have a situation where it’s close, you go with your need." Vice President of Basketball Operations Elgin Baylor, Coach Dunleavy, Director of Player Personnel Neil Olshey and Director of Scouting Gary Sacks are keeping busy at Orlando's Pre-Draft Camp. The team can begin individual workouts on Wednesday, June 3rd. "The players that are down at the Pre-Draft Camp will be under consideration for the 35th pick," Olshey said. "At the end of the week, the top 15 players available in the draft will be here for drills and physicals, which will give us the chance to evaluate them." Representatives from each team in the league are present in Orlando. Their presence gives the Clippers' Basketbal Operations staff its first opportunity to meet face-to-face with players and coaches from other teams and generate discussions for prospective trades. Below is a glance at the Clippers' situation heading into the 2008 NBA Draft on Thursday, June 26th. OVERVIEW:
With guard Shaun Livingston still undergoing rehab on his injured left knee, the Clippers could look at the point guard position as a top priority. That said, the Clippers have also previously gone with the best available player rather than need, as demonstrated in the 2007 Draft when Los Angeles chose Al Thornton at No. 14. Thornton was named to the 2008 All-NBA Rookie Team. CLIPPERS DRAFT HISTORY: SEVENTH PICK Selections: Lamond Murray (1994), Lorenzen Wright (1996)

A 6’7” forward out of California, Murray averaged 14.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 31.6 minutes in 81 games played for the Clippers during his rookie season in 1994. During his five seasons in Los Angeles, Murray averaged 11.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. Murray’s most productive year for the Clippers was in 1997-98, when he tallied 15.4 points and 6.1 rebounds in 79 games played. Click here for more draft history at No. 7.
