Farmar Keeping Regular Season On Mind With Back Pain

LAS VEGAS – Lower back tightness forced guard Jordan Farmer to sit out of the end of Saturday’s preseason game in Las Vegas.

Farmar, who joins Chris Douglas-Roberts (ankle) and Glen Davis (groin) on the Clippers’ injury list, said his back has been giving him some issues for a couple weeks and Saturday’s game put the pain over the top.

“I’ve just been staying on top of it,” Farmar said. “(Saturday) it just flared up on me. It’s a little tweak in my lower back. I’ll be all right.”

Farmar described the back issue as nerve pain that goes from his lower back to his hip. Once it flared up on him, it was tough to play through.

“We’ll see, but I think I’ll be OK,” Farmar said. “Training staff was awesome. They’re on top of it. I work really hard trying to keep everything ready to go for the season, so that’s what we’re shooting for.”

Farmar’s 13 assists this preseason are second on the team only to Chris Paul. While Farmar would like to continue getting into a groove with his new teammates, his focus is on Oct. 30 and the start of the regular season.

“As much as I like to be out there every day, these don’t mean anything at the end of the day,” he said. “I’m really just trying to be healthy and have a long, healthy, productive season.”

Farmar was able to play the beginning of Saturday’s game against the Nuggets before the back tightened up. Davis, Douglas-Roberts and J.J. Redick were the only players not to get any action in the game. Redick’s absence was a coach’s decision to give the guard some rest.

Head coach Doc Rivers said prior to Saturday’s game that Douglas-Roberts’ ankle sprain doesn’t appear to be anything particularly worrisome. The Clippers now head to San Francisco to get ready for Tuesday’s preseason game against the Warriors.
