Mark Lyons, PG, Arizona
Lyons, 23, transferred to Arizona after graduating from Xavier and playing three seasons with the Musketeers. He’s effectively a combo guard, although he averaged better than 2.5 assists per game in last three collegiate seasons. He averaged 15.6 points on 43.5 percent shooting (33.3 percent from 3-point range) his lone year in Tucson. He participated in the 2013 Portsmouth Invitational, 2012 Deron Williams Skills Academy and the 2012 Summer of Thunder Tour in the Bahamas. Most mock drafts have Lyons going undrafted.
A native of New York, Lyons went to high school in New Hampshire before committing to Xavier. After being asked to be a scorer for three seasons, he transitioned to point guard with the Wildcats last year. SLAM Magazine’s Rodger Bohn suggested that the position change was a major adjustment. “Instead of looking to create for himself like he was used to, he had to get everyone involved,” Bohn wrote. “Rather than put a team on his back by taking 20 shots, he was forced to create 20 assist opportunities. But his biggest obstacle came with distributing the rock to new clientele.”
