Brandon Davies, C, BYU
A year after being dismissed from BYU for violating the school’s Mormon honor code, Davies returned to average 17.7 points and eight rebounds as a 21-year-old senior. He is a skilled, floor-running big man with long arms and nice timing as a shot blocker. He is not the most athletic player at his position and at 234 pounds can get out-muscled inside at times. However, he proved capable of battling through adversity by working his way back to the BYU program after his dismissal midway through his junior season and carried the load for the Cougars last year. He performed well at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament following the season, drawing attention from scouts in attendance with 16 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals in the opening game. He is likely slated to go late in the second round or undrafted, according to several mock drafts.
LaWayne McGee of NBA Draft.net wrote, “[Davies is] right hand dominant but has solid touch when finishing over his right shoulder with left hand turnaround or running hooks in the paint. He’s a very unselfish player will look to draw defenders in and pass it out to open shooters out on the wing.”
