This day of giving began with Clippers Top Executives serving Thanksgiving meals to families at Bread & Roses Café in Venice. Later in the afternoon, assistant coaches Kim Hughes, Jim Eyen, Neal Meyer and Rory White along with Clippers players Baron Davis, Marcus Camby, Mike Taylor and DeAndre Jordan distributed Thanksgiving food baskets, turkeys, clothing and books at St. Joseph Center in Santa Monica. Clippers Spirit dancers Melissa and Jessie as well as Tami and Katie from the Kia Fan Patrol were also on hand.
Food basket items and more than 350 turkeys were donated courtesy of Ralphs and Food 4 Less for this Thanksgiving event. Children also received free books as part of the Clippers year-long Read to Achieve program.
Bread and Roses Café provides homeless men, women and children with free nutritious hot meals in a welcoming environment. On a daily basis, upwards of 150 meals are served to people in need. Last year Bread and Roses Café served over 24,000 meals to more than 2,000 men, women and children.
St. Joseph Center is a non-profit social service agency that helps over 7,000 individuals annually. The Center’s mission is to provide working poor families, as well as homeless men, women and children of all ages with the inner resources and tools to become productive, stable and self-supporting members of the community.
The Clippers would like to acknowledge supermarket chains Ralphs and Food 4 Less who have played an instrumental role in this event for the past six years. Ralphs and Food 4 Less believe in being good neighbors by contributing to the quality of life in the communities their stores serve.
“Teamwork at the Table” is made possible by the cumulative efforts of Clippers’ families, their fans, corporate sponsors and the Los Angeles Clippers Foundation. This event truly defines the essence of Thanksgiving and teamwork! We hope you will join us to help make this Holiday Season one to remember!
