‘BEFORE THE BIGS: BLAKE GRIFFIN’ AWARDED L.A. AREA EMMY

Clippers’ broadcast partner Fox Sports West and Prime Ticket were awarded four Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards Saturday at Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre in North Hollywood, including their “Clippers Weekly” feature “Before the Bigs: Blake Griffin.”

The nearly 40-minute feature documenting Griffin’s childhood in Oklahoma to his ascension as one of the league’s most recognized stars won for “outstanding work” in a sports special. In total, the sister networks received four L.A. Area Emmys - from 17 nominations - and tied for fourth amongst all recognized stations.

Clippers Weekly debuted prior to the start of training camp last season. The half-hour program became a staple in Prime Ticket’s lineup, airing each Wednesday evening throughout the 2013-14 regular season and Playoffs. Before the Bigs is arguably the show’s most in-depth feature. Past editions have included Chris Paul, Caron Butler, Jamal Crawford and other Clippers with each chronicling each player’s life from his youth to the NBA.

Griffin’s Before the Bigs was one of two such features to air on Clippers Weekly during the season and originally aired in November 2013. It preceded Griffin’s best season as a profession in which he amassed 24.1 points per game, 9.5 rebounds, 3.9 assists and shot 52.8 percent from the field. He finished third in MVP voting, came four points shy of tying Wilt Chamberlain’s All-Star Game scoring record of 42, and was a second team All-NBA performer for the third straight year.
